Span and Support Recommendations for 16mm Clear Polycarbonate Sheets

When planning your project, it’s important to consider the span capabilities of 16mm polycarbonate roofing sheets. Factors such as roof pitch, geographical location, and exposure to weather will influence span limits. Generally, without additional support, a common recommendation is to space rafters at approximately 1,000mm. With the addition of lateral cross bracing (also called noggins or dwangs), spans can be increased to up to 1,200mm–1,250mm, depending on load conditions and application requirements.

For wider spans or areas exposed to heavy winds or snowfall, incorporating cross bracing is always recommended for added stability. Alternatively, thicker sheets such as 25mm polycarbonate may be more suitable for such conditions.
